The UCSD Cellular and Molecular Medicine Electron Microscopy core provides services in sample preparation and imaging by Transmission Electron Microscopy and Correlative Light and Electron Microscopy.

Core that provides and produces transgenic mice. Services and methodologies include pronuclear microinjection and blastocyst microinjection for creation of new mouse cell lines as well as archival services like embryo and sperm freezing.

Core which provides Diabetes Research Center investigators access to high-throughput sequencing, data acquisition and analysis. Its main services include Sample QC and Processing, Illumina Platform Library Preparation and Sequencing, and Expression microarrays (RNA, microRNA).

Our Facility houses a 600 MHz Bruker Avance III NMR spectrometer fitted with a 1.7mm triple resonance cryoprobe, for analysis of mass limited samples, and a 24 position sample changer for automated data acquisition. Users may collect their own data after suitable training, or have Facility staff do it for them.

The IGM Genomics Center at the University of California, San Diego, is a core research facility overseen by the IGM. Located in Leichtag 172, the IGM Genomics Center provides a variety of services, including sequencing library preparation and sequencing on Illumina\'s MiSeq and NovaSeq 6000 platforms. We support single cell sequencing on the 10X Genomics Chromium Controller. We also process Illumina Infinium Beadchips, which includes a variety of whole-genome genotyping (WGGT) arrays as well as the Infinium MethylationEPIC BeadChip.

Core offers consultation and training to investigators on range of microscopy techniques, including super-resolution, confocal, multi-photon, and advanced fluorescence imaging and image analysis.

The Penn State College of Medicine Mass Spec and Proteomics Facility offers complete sample prep services, methods development, and bioinformatic/biostatistical analyses for discovery and targeted proteomics and quantitative proteomics (Identification & Quantitation w DIA-PASEF , plus targeted MRM/SRM assays) as well as for small molecule/lipid quantitation.

The Scripps Florida Flow Cytometry Core (FCC) serves the Scripps Florida community as well as researchers from outside Scripps on a fee-for-service basis. Services offered include, cell sorting, analytic cytometry, laser microdissection and hematology.

FCC facility staff will perform all sorting on the FACS ARIA3.

Analytical applications include immuno-phenotyping, cell cycle analysis (DNA content, BrdU), and calcium flux (ratiometric imaging), among others. Additional modalities (FRET, intracellular organelle staining, etc.) can be developed in response to need; please talk to us about your specific application.

The Leica LMD laser capture microdissection microscope has 4X, 6.3X, 10X, 20X, 40X, and 63x objectives, automated motorized scanning and positioning, and remote stylus operated input.

The Hemavet 950 FS is an animal blood cell counter and differential analyzer. The Hemavet allows for a fast and complete five-part white blood cell differential, red blood cell analysis, and platelet analysis.

Biorepository collection is comprised of blood samples, tissues and other biological materials donated by patients, coupled with information about their health, environment, lifestyle, medical care and responses to medical treatment. Biorepository is accredited by College of American Pathologists.

Core provides development and testing of small animal models to be used for pre-clinical pulmonary research. BSL2 facility that allows the assessment of pulmonary function related to airway hyper-responsiveness, ventilation-induced lung injury, postnatal lung development, airway remodeling, chronic inflammation, allergy, environmental exposures and infection. Services offered include oxygen profiling, infection and treatment; ability to deliver, measure and test pre-clinical potential of therapeutic interventions via aerosol; and housing of small animals.

The Atomic Force Microscopy Core at Penn State College of Medicine was created in 2023, in part, through an NIH S10 award (1S10OD030279-01A1). The core’s mission is to provide the College of Medicine research community with access to state-of-the-art atomic force microscopy equipment and expertise as a means to advance the strategic research goals of the institution.

The Light Microscopy Imaging Core at Penn State College of Medicine provides consultation and training in ultra-high-resolution imaging of cells and tissues in fixed or live states. The core also provides expertise in quantitative image analysis and consultations on microscopy-related research projects.

The Metabolic Phenotyping Core at the Penn State College of Medicine offers equipment for the comprehensive assessment of energy balance and body composition in experimental rodents (mice and rats). Services include training in the use of the equipment, consultation on experiment design, and help with data analysis.

Our mission is to provide high-quality transmission electron microscopy (TEM) services, education, and training for the Penn State Hershey campus, other academic institutions, and private companies at large.

The lab is equipped with high-resolution transmission electron microscopes (JEOL 1400) and full suite of ancillary sample preparation equipment to fit most TEM-related needs. The equipment can provide nanometer scale analysis for biological, chemical and materials science. The TEM facility offers multiple levels of service that correspond with the services and training each user desires:

TEM services include sample preparation, fixation, embedding, ultra-microtomy, staining, TEM imaging, immuno-localization (i.e. immunogold EM), and negative staining.

The Zebrafish Functional Genomics Core at the Penn State College of Medicine was established to provide the Penn State research community with a modern, centralized facility for housing, breeding and performing experiments with zebrafish, one of the fastest-growing model systems in biomedical research.
The mission of the core is to provide a physical and intellectual infrastructure for investigators whose research can benefit from use of the zebrafish as a model system.

Nuclear magnetic resonance, known as NMR, uses the magnetic properties of certain nuclei to study molecular structure. A wide variety of information can be gathered using NMR for chemical studies (including structural and conformational determinations) as well as biological studies (including protein and nuclei acid structure and function).

The core facility offers and operates as a full service core by performing crystallization, X-ray diffraction data collection (both in-house and synchrotron sources) processing, phasing, crystallographic refinement, model building, and visualization. The structural data obtained by the core will provide scientists with a wealth of information including but not limited to biological functions, 3D-folding, ligand binding (small molecule or protein), or mutational effect of target macromolecules.

The Behavior Core at Scripps Florida provides an excellent resource for investigators wishing to include behavioral assays in their research programs. It is divided into separate suites to accommodate either mice or rats, and a wide range of behavioral paradigms is available. Behavior Core personnel can assist in all aspects of rodent behavioral testing including design, training, and execution of behavioral tasks as well as data analysis and interpretation.

The Cell Based High-Throughput Screening (CBS) core provides investigators with access to genome-wide collections of cDNAs, microRNA-adapted short hairpin (shRNA) retroviral libraries, and siRNA libraries that can be used to interrogate cellular models of signal transduction pathways and phenotypes. The core has also assembled a variety of smaller focus sets form each larger library as wells as chemical libraries available for cell-based screens.

At the Center for Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases (Metabolic Core), we offer prompt access to validated in vitro and in vivo tests to help advance the metabolic characterization of genetic and pharmacological research models of metabolic diseases, cancer, circadian rhythms, aging, inflammation and more.

We have consolidated analytical and in-vivo laboratories with a number of applications ranging from feeding, sleep, temperature, blood pressure, body composition and metabolic monitoring in mice, to cellular metabolism and in-depth chemical analysis of hormones, nutrients, inflammatory mediators and more.

Additionally, we will assist our users with trainings, experimental design and data analysis as needed and promptly respond to their troubleshooting requirements during experimentation.

Core facility that provides services to support stem cell research for Salk Institute researchers and their direct collaborators. The CTEC provides well-characterized human embryonic stem (hES) cell lines and human induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cell lines, space and equipment for research, as well as training and consultation.

Core offers single-cell and spatial omics services. Provides consultation, expert guidance in experimental design, and technologies tailored for innovative research in genomics. Facility is equipped with 10x Genomics Chromium X and Xenium systems, Vizgen MERSCOPE, Bruker/NanoString GeoMx Digital Spatial Profiler, and nCounter MAX.

Core facility established to assist the Salk community with integrating genomics data into their research. The primary focus of the core is to provide analysis support for next-generation sequencing applications.

Core facility that provides consultation on the use of viral vector technologies as well as custom design and production services for multiple vector types. The GT3 facilitates the use of these research tools by Salk researchers and others across diverse fields of study such as systems neuroscience, stem cell biology, metabolism, ageing, cancer biology and gene therapy. The GT3 core is a designated Cancer Center Council (C3) core facility. Cancer Center members from participating C3 institutes have preferential rates.

We provide a broad range of in vivo research services, primarily in mice but also rats, appropriate to neuroscience and other fields of biological research. We perform behavioral testing, compound dosing, tissue sampling, stereotaxic surgery and other surgeries on request and tissue recovery.

Core facilty that provides access and services for analyzing targeted and complex mixtures of protein and small molecules, like metabolites. By utilizing these tools, research on disease states can be augmented by proteomic and metabolomic study.

Core facility that provides media, plates, and commonly used buffers for molecular biology applications and culturing mammalian cells, C. elegans, yeast, and bacteria. The Media Preparation Core Facility is equipped with 3 automatic plate pourers supported by 2 programmable media kettles capable of producing up to 9 liters of agar or nutrient media per run under gentle and reproducible conditions. Plates are available in 6 cm or 10 cm formats.

Core facility that provides the resources to investigate sensory, motor and complex behavioral testing in rat and mouse models. The facility offers standard neurobehavioral tests, customized test batteries, training for independent use of the equipment, data interpretation and anlaysis.

Core facility equipped with commercial imaging and data analysis technologies. The facility will provide technical assistance to the Salk Institute faculty through access to onfocal microscopy (both fixed and live cell), TIRF microscopy, two-photon microscopy, electron microscopy and super-resolution microscopy as well as in vivo imaging modalities.

Core facility dedicated to providing high-throughput sequencing services, consultation and expert assistance in strategic planning and method development. The core houses state-of-the art equipment, including Illumina HiSeq 2500 and NextSeq 500 high-throughput sequencing systems, Agilent 2200 TapeStation, Covaris M220 Focused-ultrasonicator and a Bio-Rad QX200 Droplet Digital PCR system.

Core facility dedicated to advancing research projects requiring cell sorting and/or analysis of cell populations by flow cytometry. The core offers training on and access to shared use instrumentation for analytical flow cytometry, services for fluorescence activated cell sorting (FACS) as well as technical consultation and support on experimental design, execution, and data analysis.

The facility provides access to high-speed cell sorting, analytical flow and imaging flow cytometry, and validated antibody panels for immune profiling on the SBP campus in La Jolla. Trained SBP investigators have 24-hr/day access to a variety of analytical flow cytometers available for independent use. Trained external users have access during business hours.

Core staff provide technical expertise, hardware and software training, operate the facility‘s cell sorters and are available to assist with analysis experiments for those who prefer to have their samples run by an expert cytometrist.

Scientists planning a flow cytometry experiment are encouraged to consult facility staff for assistance with protocols, fluorochrome selection or other aspects of experiment design.

The Sanford Burnham Prebys Cancer Metabolism Core provides a unique service for the analysis of metabolism, offering both metabolite quantification and stable-isotope tracing methodology, centered around gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). We offer GC-MS analysis of polar metabolites (TCA cycle, glycolysis metabolites and amino acids), short chain fatty acids, fatty acids and cholesterol, sugars and sugar-phosphates. As well as cells, we can also analyze tissues, tumors, serum or culture medium as necessary. We also have available a YSI 2950 analyzer for measurement of glucose, lactate and glutamine in medium samples. We collaborate closely with Core users and can provide in-depth advice on the direction of metabolic experiments, as well as the interpretation of results.

Core facility dedicated to providing a static or dynamic (in vitro/in vivo) imaging services by offering histology and microscopy services and providing support and training to interested researchers. The facility offers a range of light microscopes, related imaging systems and image analysis resources for assisted or independent use (upon training). It also can provide advice on proper sample fixation, processing, embedding of tissues with attention to desired orientation, decalcification of bone tissue, cutting of paraffin blocks, cryosectioning, routine and special stains as well as training in histological techniques.
