Facility Details

The Mass Spectrometry Core is part of Edinburgh Clinical Research Facility, situated in the Centre for Cardiovascular Sciences in the Queen‘s Medical Research Institute at the University of Edinburgh. We teach and host undergraduate students, MSc and PhD and clinical research fellows the theory and practice of mass spectrometry, chromatography and its applications to clinical and biological research questions.
We have expertise in sample preparation, bioanalysis for targeted small molecule analysis in clinical and pre-clinical studies.
We also provide a service of sample analysis where we operate under Good Clinical Practice for laboratories for clinical studies. Steroids, drugs and endogenous molecules and metabolic pathways in plasma, serum, tissue.
We also carry out research and consulting in Imaging Mass spectrometry with a full workflow of cryostat, MALDI sprayers, a Sublimator a Waters Synapt G2Si, MALDI and DESI and a range of software packages and workflows developed.
