Electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy (EPR), or electron spin resonance (ESR), is a technique used to study species with unpaired electrons. EPR is important in understanding organic and inorganic radicals and transition metal complexes. Additionally, biomolecules, which typically do not contain unpaired electrons, can be observed with EPR by selective labeling of residues or natural binding to certain transition metals.

The UCSC Chemical Screening Center (CSC) is a shared research facility using high-throughput and high-content screening techniques to aid in the discovery of therapeutic agents and biomedical research tools. Located amidst the majestic redwoods at the top of the UCSC campus, the CSC is dedicated to improving human health by finding the next generation of therapeutic agents against a wide variety of diseases. The CSC is driving innovation in drug discovery by bringing together experts in drug screening with cell and molecular biologists engaged in disease research. The CSC has also assembled a uniquely diverse collection of compounds derived from marine organisms, setting our facility apart as a leader in the discovery of therapeutic natural products. For more information, see csc.ucsc.edu.
