The NIDDK-Vanderbilt University Mouse Metabolic Phenotyping Center (VMMPC; www.vmmpc.org) was founded in 2001 as a resource for the study of mouse models of diabetes, obesity, and related disease as part of the national MMPC consortium. The VMMPC occupies 3000 sq ft of continuous space that includes animal housing, energy balance, telemetry, and experiment rooms and surgical suites. The VMMPC is designed so housing and study environments can be controlled and workflow is optimized so that multiple procedures can be used on a single mouse. The VMMPC develops, standardizes, and provides surgical and experimental services for phenotyping mice. Surgical procedures include venous and arterial catheterizations, cannula and fiber optic brain implants, bariatric surgeries, and islet transplantations. The VMMPC uses flexible platforms to study nutrient metabolism and energy balance that can be readily adapted for specific experimental requirements. The use of dual arterial and venous catheter implantation permit glucose clamps, treadmill exercise, metabolic flux analyses, and other procedures to be studied without the stress of handling mice. The VMMPC offers courses annually to disseminate research laboratory practices to study mice metabolism.

The Center for Innovative Technology (CIT) at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee is a state-of-the-art small molecule omics (metabolomics, lipidomics) shared resource center and collaborative analytical facility specializing in a range of mass spectrometry and confocal screening techniques.
OUR MISSION is to provide innovative and tailored solutions to analytical challenges using cutting-edge instrumentation and methodologies for academia, government, and industry.
OUR CAPABILITIES include measuring the complex array of small molecule metabolites present within a fluid, cell, or tissue and identifying reproducible steady state and/or temporal changes associated with disease state or drug administration for context dependent analysis. Metabolite identifications are assigned based on high mass accuracy measurements, isotope distributions, tandem MS fragmentation patterns, and comparisons with spectral libraries and standards. Consequently, the results can reveal unique biochemical fingerprints of cellular processes specific to each sample. This can be exploited as a discovery-based approach for generating novel hypotheses or used to better understand physiological processes mediated by genetic or environmental perturbations. If needed, new workflows can be established for method development, targeted biomolecule measurement acquisition, and/or metabolite validation.
We support our clients in numerous phases of the analytical pipeline and provide a number of routine and/or advanced services depending on the goals of your individual research projects.

Molecular Biology Core at Meharry Medical College is a multi-functional facility that provides to faculty, students, and staff of the college the primary service of DNA sequencing but also provides access to shared equipment housed in a centralized location and facilitates convenient and rapid access to frequently used molecular biological reagents. The Core also maintains an Invitrogen Supply Center that stocks many routinely used reagents for molecular biological research.
