The Cold Storage Core provides a controlled environment designed for the long-term storage of clinical/research materials in -20ºC or -80ºC freezers and in liquid nitrogen freezers.

The URMC Flow Cytometry Resource is equipped with a wide array of instrumentation that is rarely matched the world over. This includes 8 traditional analytical cytometers, two full spectrum cytometers, 3 cell sorters, 2 imaging cytometers, a small(nano) particle detection system, a Metabolomics instrument, a BioPlex200, and a mass cytometer.

The Biosafety Level 3 (BSL3) core facility is available for use by any researcher at the university whose work requires the manipulation of biological agents that may cause serious or potentially lethal disease as a result of exposure by the inhalation route.

The Mass Spectrometry Resource Laboratory (MSRL) provides instrumentation and technical expertise to local researchers seeking to conduct MS-based protein or small molecule assays.

Staff within the MSRL provide assistance with project design, sample preparation, collection and interpretation of mass spectrometric data.

Common analyses include the identification of unknown proteins, characterization of protein complexes, mapping of post-translational modifications (PTMs) and relative quantitation of peptides and small molecules from a range of sample types, including complex clinical matrices, tissue extracts and cell lysates.

Specialized MS instrumentation operated and maintained by the core include a Fusion Lumos Tribrid Orbitrap and a Thermo Q Exactive Plus Hybrid Quadrupole-Orbitrap. In addition, the laboratory has access to a variety of automated database searching software as well as resources to facilitate discovery-based proteomics projects.

The Electron Microscopy Resource supports ultra-structural interrogation of tissues, biologic solutions and nanomaterials for investigators utilizing transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and cryo-TEM.
