The Nebraska Biobank is a Nebraska Research Initiative (NRI) developed joint effort of the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) and Nebraska Medicine to facilitate research in health care. The Nebraska Biobank is made up of residual blood samples from patients who want to take part.
Patients at the Nebraska Medicine clinics and hospitals are being asked at check-in to participate by donating any blood left from their scheduled laboratory tests to the Nebraska Biobank. Serum, Plasma, and DNA are recovered from the consented samples and stored for future research studies. Deidentified data from the Electronic Health Record (EHR) such as age range, diagnosis, and medications are linked to the stored samples. Any faculty member from the University of Nebraska system may request samples from the biobank for their research projects but all requests are subject to feasibility and scientific merit review.
The Nebraska Biobank also offers sample management services to investigators for clinical trials and registries.

Methodology
RRID:SCR_025551
Provides range of evaluation and data services to support client needs.Through consulting, evaluation, methodology, and training, we work to fill gaps and improve and empower data driven decision making. At the proposal stage of grants, we can design evaluation plans to meet your project needs, with the associated narrative text, budget, and letter of collaboration, as needed. We can also fill gaps post-award, or provide support with internal funding. We can assist with logic models, Broader Impacts, methodologies, needs assessments, survey design and implementation, support with Institutional Review Board applications, and trainings in our areas of expertise.

The Proteomics and Metabolomics Facility (PMF) at the Center for Biotechnology was established in 2015 under the leadership of the Director, Dr. Sophie Alvarez and the Assistant Director, Dr. Mike Naldrett to meet ever increasing needs for a range of technical services using mass spectrometry, including identification and relative quantification of proteins and several advanced methods for profiling and quantitation of small molecules.
The primary aim of the PMF is to provide high quality service and collaborative work in the fields of Proteomics and Metabolomics to support scientists and students within our University community and around the world. Through this we strive to advance world-class research, support grant proposals, assist in the education of future scientists and support economic and scientific advancements. We offer both Full-Service and Self-Service options to meet the unique needs, time requirements and budgets of our users. Our outreach and education program includes workshops, seminars and courses.
Proteomics services include:
Bottom-up Proteomics of whole organisms, organs, organelles, tissues, cell pellets, pulldowns, complex or single protein mixes from solutions or gels.
Quantification by label-free or multiplexed labeling techniques (eg TMT-10/16plex) with microscale subfractionation to increase coverage.
Post Translational Modification Characterization especially phosphopeptide enrichment from whole organism digests, but also ubiquitylation, acetylation, etc.
Metabolomics services include:
Untargeted Quantification of a wide range of small molecules
Primary metabolism using GC-MS and NIST/Fiehn Libraries
Secondary metabolism using LC-MS and Progenesis QI, NIST Library, mzCloud
Targeted Quantification using HPLC or LCMS.

The CryoEM core facility is dedicated to the structural characterization of biological samples and microcrystals using cryo-electron microscopy (CryoEM). The core can run the main three CryoEM workflows, including, single-particle CryoEM, Cryo-electron tomography (CryoET), and Micro crystal electron diffraction (MicroED). We have state-of-the-art instrumentation that includes a TFS 200kV Glacios CryoTEM, equipped with a zero-loss Selectris Energy Filter, a Flacon 4i Direct Electron Detector, and a Ceta-D camera. In addition, the facility counts with a Pelco Easy Glow Discharger and two vitrification robots, the TFS Vitrobot Mark IV, and the Leica EM GP2. We also present all the capacities for storing and shipping samples. Furthermore, our facility has a dedicated Data storage Server and a Live processing workstation for our users‘ convenience, including the data processing suites RELION and CryoSPARC available at our campus supercomputer Swan cluster at the Holland Computer Center.
