Facility Details

The MASTER Unit is a specialized facility dedicated to supporting research, diagnostics, and scientific development through advanced microscopy, functional imaging, and image analysis techniques.
The Unit provides a broad range of imaging systems with highly diverse capabilities, including fluorescence microscopes, whole-slide scanners, confocal and super-resolution microscopes in both upright and inverted configurations, light-sheet microscopy, miniscopes, and multiphoton systems optimized for in vivo and ex vivo imaging. The versatility of this equipment enables acquisition conditions to be adapted to the specific experimental requirements of each project.
In collaboration with the Histology and Electron Microscopy Unit, MASTER also provides a specialized whole-sample clearing service covering the complete workflow, from tissue preparation to image acquisition and subsequent digital processing.
For image analysis and quantification, users have access to established commercial software packages, including Imaris and Arivis. The Unit also provides a high-performance workstation equipped with leading advanced open-source libraries and applications, such as Cellpose, StarDist and Napari. Images and associated metadata can also be generated in formats fully compatible with the OMERO data management platform.
To ensure optimal use of the infrastructure, the Unit has specialized staff who provide introductory training and continuous technical support. The technical team also offers personalized assistance with specific experimental requirements and the development of customized methodologies tailored to each project's needs.
