The CU Boulder Biochemistry Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) facility serves the research needs of the entire campus community as well as external research entities, both public and private. This facility maintains a 400MHz Bruker NMR capable of running a wide variety of NMR experiments, including solution NMR spectroscopy for small molecules, macromolecules, polymers, and proteins. The on-site analytical tools (Topspin, MestRenova) are here to facilitate your research success.

The Intermountain Neuroimaging Consortium (INC) is a state-of-the-art magnetic resonance imaging research facility located at the University of Colorado Boulder.

The BioFrontiers Advanced Light Microscopy Core is a user facility designed to advance biological discovery through quantitative microscopy techniques. The facility is open all researchers from academia, national labs and industry. Current demands in biological research require the capability to observe cellular and sub-cellular events and phenomena both punctually as well as over time. The BioFrontiers Advanced Light Microscopy Core is capable to meet these imaging needs. The low signal levels that result from biologically important processes, as well as the spatio-temporal dynamic nature of these processes (3D; millisecond timescales; longitudinal observation), necessitates the use of versatile, reconfigurable, high-speed, and high-sensitivity imaging technologies. Multiple imaging technologies are housed within the BioFrontiers Advanced Light Microscopy Core that can meet these rigorous demands, ranging from conventional widefield to state-of-the-art Super Resolution/localization microscopies.

IRiSS is a CSU Core facility that provides social science research expertise and resources for the design, collection, management, analysis, and dissemination of original social science data, including interviews, focus groups, surveys, photo voice, social network analysis, program evaluation, team assessments, and mixed-method studies.

The Central Analytical Laboratory (CAL) Proteomics and Mass Spectrometry Shared Research Core Facility offers analytical and instructional expertise in mass spectrometry with practical training and access to instrumentation. Located in room C1B90 of Jennie Smoly Caruthers Biotechnology Building and currently maintains several mass spectrometry systems that provide unique and complementary mass spectrometry capabilities.
Instruments are interfaced with chromatographic system in order to separate complex mixture samples. Offers training for open access to some instruments including Thermo GCMS and Waters Synapt G2 HDMS instruments.

The Stat Lab is a CSU Core facility that provides statistical expertise for the benefit of advancing the quality of scientific research and education at CSU and beyond, while educating the next generation of applied statisticians.

The CSU Drone Center offers consultation on drone systems, UAS project guidance, UAS piloting, assistance with UAS pilot training, liaison and navigation of FAA regulations, and as point of contact for UAS inquiries from outside the University. Further, the Center assists in authorizing flight requests at CSU and managing the Christman Airfield use for drone flights. The CSU Drone Center maintains a fleet of sUAS aircraft and air borne sensors.

Multidisciplinary core research facility and service center, within College of Engineering and Applied Science, that provides access to equipment in areas of micro and nanofabrication, nanomaterials characterization and metrology and offers expertise and advanced hands-on training. Offers common platform for convergence of multiple scientific and engineering disciplines and facilitates collaborative research with strategic partners and information exchange.

The Polymeric and Optical Materials Characterization (POM-C) Shared Facility is housed in Prof. Tim White’s laboratories at the University of Colorado. The facility specializes in material characterization of polymers, hydrogels, liquid crystals, and composites.

The University of Colorado Boulder Biochemistry Department's Krios Electron Microscopy facility (BioKEM) offers single particle cryo-EM and cryo tomography of plunge-frozen samples. Using a Titan Krios G3i (funded by HHMI) for high resolution data collection on a Gatan K3 Direct Detection Camera the BioKEM facility is able to offer high-end data collection at atomic level resolution. The BioKEM facility uses Serial EM for SPA and cryo-ET data acquisition.

The CU Facility for Electron Microscopy of Materials (CU FEMM) is an open access user facility that serves the entire CU Boulder campus and is also open to external users nationwide. The facility features state-of-the-art transmission electron microscopes housed in a vibration, static-free, and temperature-controlled environment. Designed to ensure the highest resolution possible, this uniquely constructed and renovated facility enables the study of structure and chemistry at the atomic scale by isolating instruments from thermal, vibration, and electromagnetic interference. CU FEMM’s instruments, specifically the Thermo Fisher Titan Themis 300, is equipped for probe aberration correction, making it a unique instrument within the region for obtaining atomic-resolution images and elemental maps.

The electron microprobe is the premiere instrument for performing non-destructive, in-situ, quantitative chemical analysis of solid materials via wavelength dispersive spectrometry. EMP surface analyses provide chemical information with a high degree of spatial resolution with analytical volumes as low as 3-5 μm3. Elements ranging from Boron (Z=5) to Uranium (Z=92) can be routinely analyzed with detection limits as low as 50 ppm. The EML is housed within the Department of Geological Sciences. The lab is equipped with JEOL 8230 Electron Microprobe. This instrument was purchased in 2017 with an NSF MRI award. The laboratory also contains a Leica ACE600 carbon thin film evaporation system for the preparation of non-conductive samples. ​​

Shared facility provides space for culturing human induced plurupotent stem cells on second floor of Porter Biosciences. Provides biosafety cabinets,CO2 and variable oxygen control incubators, inverted phase contrast microscopes, and sterile dissection hood equipped with dissecting microscope and heated stage,inverted fluorescence microscopes with live-cell time-lapse capabilities, centrifuges, liquid nitrogen cryostorage space, refrigerators, freezers, water baths, dedicated bioengineering space, and viral expression core. Routine mycoplasma testing is performed in-house and karyotyping services are carried out via contract.

The FCF provide easy and cost effective access to state-of-the-art flow cytometry and cell sorting instrumentation, services, and expertise for all researchers at Colorado State University. FCF includes spectral flow cytometers Cytek Aurora (3 and 4 lasers) which enables users to perform more than 25 markers in a sample. FCF also has 10X Genomics chromium controller used to barcode single cells to perform single cell sequencing. We also offer data analysis of these complex flow cytmetry and single cell sequencing samples using R programming or bash shell based pipelines.

The Geospatial Centroid at CSU Libraries is a Core facility that provides technical guidance, project support, and diverse training opportunities in the geospatial sciences. With expertise in GIS (geographic information systems), spatial analysis, web mapping, and cartography, the Centroid supports researchers in spatial data development, analysis, visualization, and publication-ready maps.

Provides cutting edge capabilities for probing large lengthscale structures such as polymers, biological macromolecules, meso- and nano-porous materials, and molecular self-assemblies.Techniques that can be applied to study materials include SAXS, GISAXS, WAXS, and GIWAXS. The 30W Xenocs Genix 3D x-ray source and state-of-the-art Dectris Eiger R 1M detector provide an excellent way to probe almost any material of interest. In-situ x-ray studies may be carried out using temperature controlled sample holders in both SAXS and GISAXS modes..

Facility is equipped with instruments for both high throughput and high content biochemical and cell based assays, including live cell assays.

Core research facility housed in Department of Geological Sciences for fast, non-destructive characterization and chemical imaging of diverse materials spanning minerals (thin sections and powders), biological samples, fluids, dissolved gases, and much more.

Core instruments include Agilent Bioanalyzer 2100 system provides sizing, quantitation and quality control of DNA, RNA and proteins, Illumina MiSeq sequencer, able to sequence prepared Illumina DNA or RNA libraries at low- to mid- output (0.75 to 13 Gbp per run), Illumina NextSeq sequencer capable of sequencing Illumina DNA or RNA libraries, QuantStudio 6 Real-Time PCR uses fluorescence detection method for quantitative and qualitative analysis of nucleic acid sequences including gene expression, regulation and variation, Qubit Fluorimeter 3.0 capable of measuring DNA or RNA concentrations with high accuracy.

The goal of the Biological Mass Spectrometry Facility is to provide investigators with the capabilities to identify, characterize, and quantify biomolecules present in tissues, cells, and biological fluids. The facility houses both Proteomics and Metabolomics Cores, and aims to assist members with solving difficult or previously intractable problems in biomedical research. Methods for biomolecule isolation, separation, quantification, identification and bioinformatics analysis, together with expert guidance in study design, are integrated into expertise offered by the Facility.

The goal of the Animal Imaging and Irradiation SR (AIISR) is to enable non-invasive imaging of animal models of human disease. Our Core facility provides access and training on state-of-the-art animal scanners (MRI, CT, optical, ultrasound, PET/SPECT) for live imaging on rodents. We also offer an array of animal irradiators designed for both wide beam and targeted Xray radiation. The AIISR assists with all animal handling and image analysis. The mission of the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus (CU AMC) Drug Discovery and Development Shared Resource (D3SR) is to provide expertise and infrastructure to facilitate drug discovery at different stages of the development pipeline, including assay development and validation, high-throughput screening (HTS) and image-based high-content screening (HCS) discovery, hit-to-lead validation and optimization, and in vitro and in vivo pharmacology including pharmacokinetics (PK) and pharmacodynamics (PD) as well as toxicology.

GSR provides genome-wide analyses of DNA sequence, transcriptomes, epigenetics and cytogenomics using next generation sequencing (NGS) and gene microarrays; and single cell genomic and transcriptomic analyses including single cell immune profiling and spatial gene expression.

The aim of the Cryo-EM SR is to provide state-of-the-art equipment, expert technical assistance and image analysis expertise to enable all aspects of macromolecular structure determination by single particle cryo-electron microscopy

The goal of the Biomolecular NMR Core facility is to enable the study of biomolecular structure, dynamics and interactions in solution at the atomic level. The facility provides is equippped with three high field NMR spectrometers from 600 MHz to 900 MHz equipped for biomolecular NMR studies

Service facility which provides instrumentation and image analysis on recharge basis. Offers full specimen preparation and imaging services. Specimen preparation for electron microscopy studies including negative staining, plastic embedding, ultramicrotome and immunogold.

The Genetically Engineered Murine Models (GEMM) Core provides full-service mouse genetic engineering support to researchers. We will help you select the best model for your research program, design and build any requisite constructs and reagents, and produce live mice. The most popular requests are for CRISPR-based gene edited mice and transgenic mice. To date, we have created engineered alleles for knockouts, conditional knockouts, SNP knockins, tag and marker insertions, deletions of up to 300kb, duplications, and transgenic alleles. These novel mouse models have been made on a wide spectrum of genetic background strains, including but not limited to C57BL/6J, C57BL/6N, NOD, BALB/cJ, FVB/Crl, NSGS, various 129 substrains, collaborative cross strains, and on mice that are already genetically modified.

Our robust breeding and genotyping program supports breeding to establish germline transmission and can also create cohorts for investigators. We also provide strain cryopreservation, rederivation and rescue services, as well as cryostorage. Our services are available to outside institutions, nationally and internationally.

The Population Health Shared Resource (PHSR) supports access to and expertise in data management, analyses, and mapping/data visualization of population-based databases. These databases are ideal for studies requiring access to large samples of patients and/or providers; examination of trends in treatment, screening, or other healthcare services; the impact of policy changes or recommendations on healthcare services; investigating the dissemination of evidence-based technologies and interventions; disparities of treatment or other health care services between groups; geographic distributions of cancer patients and relationships with other geospatial data.

Biostatistics provides quantitative support for the planning, design, analysis, and presentation of basic science, clinical, and epidemiological investigations. We are dedicated to delivering high-quality, methodically developed results to improve patient outcomes and clinical care.

The UCD AMC gnotobiotic core provides investigators germ free (axenic/sterile) and gnotobiotic (flora-defined) mice. We provide a space in which investigators can complete their own studies or hire the core to complete experimental manipulations. Our core facility includes 12 large soft-sided vinyl isolators for breeding and 8 small soft-sided vinyl isolators for experiments. We also have the option between using the Allentown positive pressure racks and static cage for experimental use.

The Small-Animal IGRT Core specializes in the targeted irradiation of small animals for use in pre-clinical trials of radiation therapy. Through the use of the XRAD-SmART Irradiator, our core can use x-ray fluoroscopy and on-board CBCT to accurately irradiate small lesion areas while protecting normal tissue. Our core also provides experiment design, data analysis, and dosimetry calculations, as well as longitudinal acquisition of CBCT for temporal assessment of tumor growth kinetics.

The Pathology Shared Resource Biorepository Section provides a wide array of services to support biobanking, clinical trials, and research studies. We provide access to high-quality non-biased patient specimens collected from clinical and research procedures that are handled, processed, analyzed, and interpreted in a uniform manner. Services include, collection, processing, storage, clinicopathological annotation, and distribution of biospecimens

The Xray Crystallography Core performs all aspects of structure determination of karge biomolecules (such as proteins and nucleic acids) including macromolecular crystallization, crustal screening, molecular structure and model building

The Pathology Shared Resource Research Histology Section provides a wide range of standardized paraffin histology procedures that can be tailored to specific research needs.  Services include tissue grossing/cassetting, paraffin processing, sectioning, routine and special stains. We specialize in immunohistochemistry and antibody optimization procedures.

The Pathology Shared Resource Molecular Pathology Section offers clinical-grade sample processing and molecular testing for research cases.  All services are performed in a CLIA-certified environment and all molecular assays are accompanied by full data analysis (including bioinformatics analysis for NGS data)

The Pathology Shared Resource, in collaboration with Colorado Genetics Lab, provides cytogenetic and cytogenomic research services. Services include tissue culture, chromosome analysis, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), and chromosomal microarray. We also offer the design and development of customized FISH probes. We are available for consultation on study design and data analysis. 

The main service of THE PHISM core is to provide Human Immune System (HIS) or “humanized” mice as a pre-clinical in vivo model to study the human immune system in an experimental tractable animal model (e.g. immune response to human tumors that readily grow in HIS-mice). In addition to providing the HIS-mice to investigators, we also offer immune expertise, experimental procedures and data analysis of immune-based assays, such as flow cytometry.

The Organoid and Tissue Modeling Shared Resource facilitates access, generation, and usage of novel in vitro mouse and human organoid systems to promote innovative basic and translational research and disease modeling. The OTMSR also provides expertise in genome editing technologies for targeted knock-outs, point mutations, and reporter generation in organoid systems. The OTMSR additionally provides many specialized medias and reagents to support most common organoid culture systems

Our goal is to promote scientific research in Colorado through the use of Functional Genomics. Our ultimate goal is to catalyze discoveries that will positively impact the quality of human life.

We achieve this by: 1) Facilitating access to tools (shRNA, ORF, CRISPR) to investigate gene function on a genome-wide scale. 2) Providing protocols and expertise for the use of these genomics tools. 3) Serving as a forum for scientific exchange and discussion in the field of functional genomics.

The Cell Technologies Shared Resource (CTSR) supports basic and translational research projects in biomedical research. CTSR produces hybridomas/monoclonal antibodies to enhance basic research and preclinal studies and makes recombinant proteins for mechanistic and structural studies on proteins. We provide multiple platforms and analytic modules for real time live-cell imaging of cultured cells and organoids to enhance analysis of cancer cell biology. In addition, we maintain a collection of over 500 authenticated human cell lines for use in biomedical research.

We are a cancer-focused bioinformatics group that assists in all needs related to -omics and big data. We assist our collaborators with experimental design, data processing, interpretation, generating publication-quality figures, and preparing manuscripts and grants.

We are a full service, integrated Genomics Facility housed within the Center for Genes, Environment and Health, which includes over 50 faculty and staff supporting research and clinical activities across a wide spectrum of fields. The Genomics Facility provides Next-Gen Sequencing services from expert planning through data analysis including RNA-Seq, Whole Exome Sequencing, Single-Cell sequencing and customized panels. Analysis results provided are meaningfully applied to the biology in question. The data is stored onsite and is ready for future data mining by our team or others when needed. Our team is trained to utilize both Illumina and Thermo Ion Sequencing Platforms, including many other technologies, to provide the best mix of capabilities for your genomics needs.
